Commissioned by the Irish Examiner Weekend Magazine, this illustration was created for the January 2025 Wellness Edition. The theme explored staying active as a way to support overall wellbeing — a gentle encouragement to get moving again after the cosy hibernation of Christmas.

Behind the scenes, the cover began with simple pencil sketches and rough ideas on paper. Gradually, the composition was refined and details were added, shaping the final illustration. This footage follows the journey from those early drawings right through to the finished cover in print.
I absolutely love the process of making art the old-fashioned way — with paints, pencils, and paper. It can be slow, but there’s something wonderfully authentic about it, especially in a time when AI and computer-generated artwork are becoming so common.
